Friday, March 01, 2013

One of the most important parts of planning any event is the type of food that will be served. Staying on top of the latest trends can be a daunting task. If you want your event to be one that will be unforgettable, you need to focus on the food that is served. Let's take a peek at some of the latest catering trends to help plan your menu for your next event.

  • It's all about the color- Generally speaking we don't think about color when it comes to food. Sure, planning the linens and the flowers and the overall décor of the event- color will come to mind. However, one of the latest food trends for the coming year is making your food just as fun and colorful as the rest of your event. Talk with your caterer and let them know what the overall color scheme of your next event is. Ask them to coordinate the menu keeping the color schemes in mind. You will be amazed at the results and this is one way to keep your guests talking. Don't worry we are not talking about adding food color to match! Chef's all across the globe are coming up with some creative ways to make the food the focal point of your event. Be bold and have some fun.
  • Go Green- One trend that will probably be here to stay is that of traveling down the organic road. Today, organic and sustainable ingredients have become increasingly more popular and they offer a variety of health benefits. Consider talking with your caterer and asking to have some of the menu items be more green in nature. Going green is not juts for the food choices anymore. Wines, beers and spirits are now also available with more organic ingredients. Depending on the type of event you are having these green options may be a very wise choice for you and your guests.
  • Consider exotic foods- One surefire way to make your event one that is unforgettable is considering using more of the exotic foods. Even if you only go with one rare dish the chances are great that your guests will be talking about this for months to come. When it comes to food the details tend to lie in the taste and the flavors of the food served. So if you really want to impress why not kick up the flavor by using things such as wasabi salts, Black lave sea salts or some Middle Eastern herbs.
  • Tasting menus- Can't decide what to serve at your event? Why not choose them all and go with the popular tasting menu option? A tasting menu will consist of 5-8 mini meals that will be served to your guest. They are much smaller in portion but give your guests a chance to sample and taste some amazing food. Work with your caterer and select the best choices for you and your event. Keep in mind that tasting menus do not work for all events. Since there is a lot of focus on the food, most of the time will be spent eating. A great choice for corporate events and holiday parties but may not be the best for weddings. As this may leave little time for dancing.

These are just a few of the latest trends that we are seeing in the event industry. Trends come and go and we hope that these ideas will help lead you down the right road.
